Cover letter
Dear Press SPACE to Jump Staff,
My name is Bea O'Brien and I'm a creative programmer who loves websites and wants them to be better.
I was told a little bit about the site's web issues, and it seems like an exciting challenge- I also feel confident that I can do the job. Working within clear, accessible web standards is a big deal to me, and I believe it can coexist with beautiful presentation.
The good news is, an accessibility audit is also an SEO audit, and if done well, it'll even bring the file sizes down. I hope I get the chance to sweep things up and put everything in order- good formatting and optimization brings me joy like nothing else.
I would also like to note how special it is to me that Press SPACE to Jump centers queer people and people of color in its staff, coverage, and audience. It's a place where I genuinely feel like I could belong, in an industry where I have struggled to feel welcome. I believe things are changing for the better, and your site helps me believe that. I want to work for that change.
Thank you for reading, please schedule an interview with me! It would be a dream.

Projects
- Ear Piercings is an experimental band- I work on social media, graphic design, and video for them. I also manage the artists we commission, and the team that produces our physical releases. My work for Ear Piercings often centers antiquated software and ARG-like worldbuilding (see this page made with iWeb '09).
- This website! I am building this site to act as a portfolio and blog for me to write about computers, games, music, and wider culture. I am currently going through something of a rebrand, so please be patient as I get all my old web presence set up here. My older portfolio can still be found here.
- Future Sound of Music (2022) is a web app that generates simple song lyrics based on a fictional music genre pulled from an API. It stores every song made by users in a Firebase-powered community page.
